Creevelea NS says ‘Thank You’
to
Mrs Chris Mahon
Mrs Mahon is presented with a bouquet flowers by Karen and Amy
The school community of Creevelea NS came together on Friday, 19th October, to its
thanks Mrs Chris Mahon who was a teacher in the school for 12 years.
Chris has retired from the teaching staff of the school.
The afternoon’s ceremonies began with Mrs Mary Dolan, Principal, welcoming all those
in attendance,
including parents, pupils, former members of staff, past-
members
of the Board of Management and other guests.

Fr Alwill, Chairperson of the Board of Management, led a service of thanksgiving
and blessing.
In his words, Fr Alwill spoke of how generously and how successfully Chris, in her
teaching,
had used the talents in art and drama that God had given her.
A number of the children then read out their particular special memories
of Mrs Mahon’s
classes in science, in art, in gardening and in drama.
Fr Alwill concluded the service
by quoting from St Matthew’s Gospel;
“Well done, good and faithful servant”
and by
giving a blessing to Chris and to all present.

Mrs Rena Fallon, who was principal when Mrs Mahon started teaching in the school,
spoke of how enthusiastically Chris would take on ventures such as the annual nativity
plays, writing the script herself and providing most of the props. She praised Chris’
commitment in preparing the children for First Communion and she thanked her for
her loyal friendship over the years.
Mrs Blaithín Lawson, speaking on behalf of the parents, spoke of how the children
would come home bubbling with enthusiasm about what they had done in Mrs Mahon’s
class earlier that day.
She too spoke of the marvellous skills Chris brought to the
classroom, especially in art and, on behalf of the parents, she expressed her gratitude
and made a presentation to Mrs Mahon.

Fr Alwill, as Chairperson of the Board of Management, then presented Mrs Mahon with
a beautiful water-

The formal proceedings came to a close with the children playing some traditional music for Mrs Mahon.

All guests were then treated to light refreshments,
during which Chris was invited
to
cut her retirement cake.
Everybody present really enjoyed what was a lovely relaxed afternoon.
We wish Chris many years of health to enjoy her retirement to the full.
