Mary McDermott RIP
The death has taken place of one of Drumkeeran’s eldest citizens,
Mary McDermott,
Sheena, Drumkeeran.
Born on 17th March 1917, Mary was the eldest of a family of six.
Her parents were
Bernard and Bridget Coyle, Fingreagh, Drumkeeran.
Mary lived most of her life in Fingreagh.
Even after her marriage to Thomas “Thomsie”
McDermott in January 1945,
she and Tomsie worked on the family farm in Fingreagh.
They
continued to live there until 1988
when they moved into Drumkeeran and settled in
Sheena.
Tomsie died in December 2007, aged 97.
Mary and Tomsie had no children
but Mary really loved and enjoyed the company of children.
A quiet lady, she was regarded by all who know her as a gracious and kind lady.
She
was also noted as a fine cook and baker.
Her strong traditional faith was very much at the heart of her life.
She was a regular
at Sunday Mass and she would never miss her daily Rosary.
In latter years, when she
was no longer able to attend Sunday Mass in the parish church,
she attended the Tuesday
Mass in Aras Bhride.
She was also a member of the 99-
and she thoroughly enjoyed
the company of her friends
in the 99-

She was blessed with fine health for most of her life but,
over the last year or so,
her health declined.
Earlier this year she was admitted to Our Lady’s Hospital, Manorhamilton,
and
then to St Felim’s Nursing Home, Dromahair.
It was there that she died on Thursday evening, 8th November.
Following the Funeral Mass on Sunday,11th November,
Mary was laid to rest beside her
late husband Tomsie
in Drumkeeran Cemetery.
