Barry’s Epic Walk

According to the song, it’s along way to Tipperary.
But for Barry McPadden it certainly was a long way to Drumkeeran as,
on Saturday 18
th August, he competed his epic week-long walk
from Croke Park, Dublin, to St Brigid’s GAA Park in Drumkeeran.

Barry started out from Croke Park on Monday 13th August,
and took six days to make the long journey.
He started the last stage from Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday morning.

Walking along the banks of the Royal Canal and using the old roads,
the total walk was 190 Km approx.

About 25 people from the local Drumkeeran community joined with Barry
and walked with him from Tarmon Church to the football pitch.

Arriving on Main Street

Barry undertook this challenge to as a charity walk to help raise funds for the Friends of St Luke,
Leitrim Ladies GAA and Drumkeeran GAA Club.

Speaking to his friends and supporters afterwards,
Barry thanked his family and all his friends who had encouraged him over the last few days.
There were times when the going was very difficult, he said,
but the the continuous support from his friends gave
him the courage to persist to the finish.

The sign says it all....
Well done Barry!
