Winifred McNama RIP
The death has taken place of Winifred McNama,
Knockacullion, Drumkeeran.
Winifred, better known to her family and friends as Winnie,
died in Sligo General
Hospital on Sunday, 22nd September.
Winnie spent her whole life in the Creevelea area.
Born Winnie Horan, she married
Frank McNama.
She and her late husband Frank worked hard
on the farm to provide for
their family.
They had five children; Ann, Mary, John P, Jimmy and Michael.
Sadly,
her husband Frank died in 1988.
Winnie’s life revolved around her family and,
in more recent times, around her extended
family.
She was a good provider, a good cook and baker,
and a lady who could do whatever
was necessary
to bring up a large family in difficult times.
Winnie was an outgoing person who
always had a warm welcome for visitors to her home.
She
was always willing to help her neighbours.
She took a keen interest in current affairs, both at local and national level.
She
was an avid reader of the Leitrim Observer
and she followed the national news on radio
and TV.
Coming from a strong traditional Irish music background,
Winnie enjoyed Irish music
programmes and sessions.
She was also a woman of deep faith and a lady for whom the Mass
and her daily prayer
were an important part of life.
We extend our sympathy to her family and to her neighbours and friends.
For her family, this has been a particularly difficult time.
On the day of Winnie’s
funeral, her sister Mary Alice died in Arigna.
Another sister, Margaret, died in July.
Winnie’s funeral took place on Tuesday, 24th September.
Fr John Sexton, Killargue,
celebrated the funeral Mass in Creevelea Church.
After the Mass Winnie was laid to rest in Aughaloghy Cemetery.
