James McHugh RIP

Greaghnadarragh

The death has taken place of James McHugh, Greaghnadarragh, Drumkeeran.

Aged 70, James, better known to family and friends as Jimmy,
died in Galway University Hospital
on Thursday August 8.

In accordance with his expressed wish,
we limit our tribute to the following comments,
as agreed with his family.

Jimmy was born in the townland of Greaghnadarragh,
about 3 miles from Drumkeeran town.

In 1961, he started working for Coillte
and spent over 46 years working in the forestry.

He also worked hard on his farm,

where he had a reputation for rearing
big, strong Angus and Limasin cattle.

In spite of receiving great care from the staffs of Sligo General Hospital
and of Galway University Hospital,
Jimmy died suddenly on Thursday last
while undergoing treatment the latter.

He will be greatly missed by his family, by his neighbours and by his friends.

Jimmy’s funeral took place on Monday, August 12.

Following Requiem Mass in St Brigid’s Church, Drumkeeran,
Jimmy was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his two sons,

Damian and Francis,

and by his sisters Mary, Kay, Betty,
Josie, Loreto and Dympna,

and by his brother Tommy.

Jimmy was predeceased by his wife Rita in 2010.
