Bernadette (Bernie) Glynn RIP
The sudden death has taken place of Bernadette Glynn, Sheena.
Bernadette, better known to all her many friends and neighbours as Bernie,
died unexpectedly in St James’ Hospital, Dublin, on Friday, 20th April.
News of her sudden death came as a great shock to everyone in and around Drumkeeran.
In her own quiet way she was a very popular member of our local community
and her passing has brought deep sadness for all who knew her.
Bernie’s life revolved around her family, her neighbours and her faith.
She and her husband John (Jack) first came to Drumkeeran in 1967 and settled in Sheena.
Bernie was a totally devoted and loving wife and mother. She was always there for the for the members of her family, always supporting and helping them, sharing their joys and their their concerns.
She and John were a very united couple. They did everything together. They went everywhere together. Three years ago, in the company of their family and of their many friends,
they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Bernie’s gentle kindness and generosity that were at the heart of her family life also touched the lives of her many neighbours and friends. In her own quiet and unassuming manner she was always there to offer help and support to anyone in any kind of need.
The goodness that she showed to her family and to the community was rooted in her deep faith.
She had a deep devotion for the Mass and, above all, for the Eucharist. She was a member of the Drumkeeran Church Adoration Group and of the Rosary Group.
Bernie and her husband Jack also served as Eucharistic Ministers until two years ago.
Over the last number of years Bernie led the congregation in saying the Rosary
during the annual Blessing of the Graves in Drumkeeran.
She was also very involved in the Apostolic Society and, with her good friend Bernie Hanly, she helped organise the Society’s annual displays and collections in the local churches.
Within the Drumkeeran church itself, she looked after the altar, decorating it with flowers from her own garden. She also looked after the altar cloths and the laundering of albs, purificators etc. And she did all of this to perfection. And for all of this, she never sought any praise, any thanks.
She was just happy to be able to help out in her own gentle and timid manner.
Bernie will be sorely missed by all who knew her and by all who benefited from her kindness and generosity.
Above all, she will be sorely missed by all the members of her family;
by her husband John,
by her daughters Mary, Anne and Jacqueline
and by her sons Sean, David, Matthew and Gerard,
also by her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law and by her grandchildren.
Only the weekend before she died Bernie celebrated the baptism of one of her grandchildren, Róisín.
She is also survived by her two sisters, Chris (Collooney) and Teresa (England).
The large attendances at both the removal and the funeral Mass bore eloquent witness to the high regard in which she and her family are held by the local community.
The funeral Mass on Monday, 23rd April, was celebrated by Fr John McTiernan, PP Dromahair.
He was assisted by Very Rev Canon Payton, PP Collooney, Co Sligo.
Following the Mass, Bernie was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
