Mary Flynn RIP

The whole community was deeply saddened at the unexpected death of Mary Flynn.

Mary, a native of Acres, Corry, had lived most of her life in London.

She died while on holiday to Drumkeeran.

Mary was born on 3rd August, 1933.
She was the daughter of Bridget and Peter McNiff, of Acres, Corry.
She was one of a family of five children; her sister Kathleen
and her three brothers, Mickey, John and Joe.

In the late 1950’s Mary went to London and settled in South Kensington.
She had a strong determination to succeed in life and worked in a variety of jobs,
including product supervisor in a small specialist-chocolates factory.
In 1962 she married James Flynn, and they had one child, their daughter Tracey.

Mary was an excellent mother, a mother who gave her total life
to looking after and caring for Tracey.
She was also a very generous and kind lady.
She always welcomed visitors and,
if someone from home was coming to settle in London,
there was always room in Mary’s house until such times as they got a place of their own.

Mary possessed a lively spirit of adventure.  She loved to travel.
For example, in the early 1970’s she took her daughter Tracey
on a bus tour across Europe, as far as Athens.
Side by side with her sense of adventure was her sense of humour.
She loved to have the bit if fun and laughter with her friends.
She also enjoyed listening to music and caring for her pets.

Mary was the kind of lady who simply took life as it came to her.
She had the remarkable ability to forgive
and to then move on.

She was a woman of deep faith, a woman of prayer
and a woman who loved to attend Mass,
especially in the Carmelite Church in Kensington.
She also had great devotion to St Jude and to St Therese of Liseaux.

On Thursday, 21st August she and her daughter Tracey arrived in Ireland
planning to visit her native Drumkeeran and to meet with
her relatives and her many good friends in the area.
However, six days later, she took ill and was was admitted to Sligo Regional Hospital.

She died there on Tuesday, 2nd September.

She is survived by her daughter Tracey.

Mary’s remains were received at St Brigid’s Church, Drumkeeran,
and her Requiem Mass was celebrated on Thursday, 4th September.
