Nellie Darcy RIP

The death has taken place of Nellie Darcy, nee Cullen,
London and formerly of Liskellew Lower, Drumkeeran.

Nellie was born in July 1925 and was the third of eleven children born
to Patrick and Bridget Cullen, Liskellew.
After she left school Nellie lived in Dublin for about 10 years.  There she met Martin Darcy and, following their marriage in 1951, the couple moved to London.  Nellie was to spend the rest of her life there.  Their only son Vincent died tragically in a house fire in 1999.
Over recent years Nellie endured much illness.  She had just recovered from a brain haemorrhage when she was diagnosed with cancer.  Having overcome both of these illness she was then diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
She spent the last 15 years of her life in a nursing home in London.
Nellie died on 19th January 2012, aged 87.
She is survived by her sisters Kathleen, Mary and Angela in the USA and by her brothers Brian in Mullies, Manorhamilton, Gerry in the USA and Tommy and Joe in London.

Her ashes were laid to rest in the family plot in Drumkeeran Cemetery after Mass of the Resurrection in St Brigid’s Church, Drumkeeran, on Wednesday, 21st March.
Chief celebrant for the Mass was Fr Gerard Alwill PP and he was assisted by
Fr John McMahon CC, Manorhamilton.
