McKenna Traditional Festival
The 2017 John McKenna Festival ran from
Thursday, June 8, to Sunday, June 11.
Large crowds attended and enjoyed
the various sessions and presentations.
The festival opened in Áras Bhríde on Thursday evening
with an evening of song and music featuring young and old.
The highlight of the programme on Friday was a concert
featuring Marcus Hernon & Family and Don Stiffe.
The usual music workshops were held on Saturday morning
and during the afternoon there was a singing session with
Jim Bainbridge, Jackie Boyce, and Fiona and Jim Byrne.
In the Community Centre on Saturday evening
celebrated the music and musicians of North Leitrim,
in the company of musicians from the Manorhamilton area.
There were also many sessions in the local pubs.
On Sunday the Aifreann na Féile
was followed by The Mining Session,
a musical gathering at the Arigna Visitor Centre.
Further traditional sessions were held
in the local pubs on Sunday night.
